Peter,

I hope that 2010 was a good year for you, and that 2011 is an even better one.

Mahalo! A happy new year to you, and thanks for reminding me of one language I neglected to include on my list.

Happy New Year to you too, Peter. I didn't think I had any language to add, but then I thought of this.

I clicked the link, saw that a clip was coming up, and, um, immediately turned off the "mute" setting. Then I saw what language you had chosen. Happy New Year, and thanks for another creative language reminder.

Buon Anno, Peter. I tried to find Latin, but I see no one cares about that any more.

I did a quick online search for the phrase. Good god, you didn't think I had it at my fingertips, did you?

Feliz ano nuevo, Peter. I don't know how to do 'accents' or curly-kews on my computer. :)

I love your blog, Peter, because you have ACTUAL discussions.

Muchas gracias. I blush at your compliment. Yes, discussion is what makes this worthwhile. Absent that, a blog is one just more voice in the cacophony of the Internet.

I don't know the coding for accent and other diacritical marks. Instead, I just do searches for them, then copy and paste.

Yes, you have discussions about important matters, developments in the history of crime fiction, issues, and even those important emdashes vs. commas (or commas) in Sciascia's works--and a lot of other important topoics.

Also, sometimes those discussions send readers/bloggers to Google to read more information about the author or topic discussed, and to seek out works by another author or more works by that author, i.e., The Maltese Falcon, and now for me, The Thin Man is on my TBR pile.

Even putting up an essay by John Lawton about the attitude and behavior of the English rulers towards Jewish people at the start of WWII was informative, and sent this reader to learn more.

For all that, and the sense of humor all the way around, thanks.

2010 was shite. 2011 will probably be worse. Certainly on the evidence available so far.

Kathy, many thanks for your gracious compliments. You're quite welcome. I've found some of my favorite crime writers through other blogs and bloggers, so I know the feeling.

Adrian, I know of at least one reason 2011 may not be off to a great start. Maybe in the future you ought to work on the vacation thing. I think the idea is to start somewhere cold, and travel somewhere warm.

I hope your gloomy predictions for 2011 are not based on those two books of yours that are supposed to be on the way.
